Solution
1. After degreasing, lightly sand and polish the surface until the underlying metal material is exposed (using P80 grit). Then, carefully smooth the edges of the repair area with finer sandpaper (P80 to P180). Finally, apply a safety-grade green protective coating to the repaired hot-dip galvanized surface before proceeding with filler application.
2. Use a scraper to mix the putty with the drying agent. This method prevents air bubbles from forming (no need for thorough mixing) and avoids environmental contamination that can occur when mixing on thick cardboard or similar surfaces.
3. When applying the coating onto a flat surface, hold the bread knife at approximately a 60° angle to the surface. This ensures a denser, more uniform coating and helps prevent bubble formation.
4. Do not apply polyester putty over existing paint layers.
5. After grinding and polishing, inspect whether the repaired area is properly leveled. Gently touch the surface to check if it’s smooth and even.
6. Remove excess filler from raised areas to minimize unnecessary sanding and polishing, while also preventing putty marks from appearing.
