Steps for repairing walls using a putty knife

　　If walls or wall surfaces have developed cracks, you can repair them using a putty knife. However, before applying this method, it’s essential to first identify the root cause of the cracks. For instance, if the cracks occur at expansion joints between structural walls and brick walls, the repair typically involves completely removing the existing material down to the base, carefully cleaning out the crack, and then injecting epoxy resin into the gap until it’s fully filled—only after that should you proceed with any additional finishing steps. 　　1. Ensure that the substrate for wall construction is sound. If the existing wall already shows cracks, remove the plaster layer entirely. Determine whether the cracks are in the wall itself or just within the plaster layer. If the cracks are in the wall structure, first widen the gaps slightly, then use a putty knife to carefully fill and smooth them with gypsum-based filler.

　　2. After the joint compound has completely dried, proceed with leveling the wall surface using cement mortar (note that the recommended cement-to-sand ratio is 1:2). Before applying the bonding agent, first cover the entire wall surface with fine cotton fabric, and then apply the bonding agent. When applying putty or wall primer, make sure not to apply it too thickly.
